The Kapiti Bowling Club was founded over 60 years ago with two grass greens and a small clubhouse.
Today, the now Raumati Bowling Club, has two artificial greens and a large pavilion. Both greens are TigerTurf carpets and were installed in 2020 and 2024. These have been well received by members and visitors alike and many congratulatory comments have been made by experienced players.
The club membership numbers were boosted in 2019 by the arrival of several players from the defunct Raumati South BC which eventually led to positive decisions about the future direction of the Kapiti Bowling Club.
The name Kapiti usually means the entire Kapiti Coast in most resident’s minds. Our former name of Kapiti Bowling Club did not clearly identify the particular district we were from and this often caused confusion for visitors.
Because we were physically very close to the Raumati Beach village and beach we were often wrongly referred to by this name.
With the influx of new members from the Raumati South Bowling Club it was a good time to revisit our Club identity.
At a Special General Meeting the club members voted to adopt the name Raumati Bowling Club in recognition of our special and very attractive situation- right in the heart of Raumati.
Members also agreed to a change of club colours and uniforms. There is now no white to be seen, just blue. Hence the nickname of "The Home of the Blues".
