VC Cup Winners
LNobody was wearing a broader smile than Danny Madden when the final of the VC Cup ended at the weekend.
Madden has been a popular player in the Kapiti region for many years and his draw play during the tournament played a big part in the Central Levin teams victory. Central won the final when their opponents conceded with 2 end as to play.
It was a spectacularly successful tournament and organiser Reg Goston agreed it was one of the best he’d been associated with.
Before the tournament began, the players gathered to witness the unveiling of a sign which carries the name of the new TigerTurf green. It will be known as the Keith Elliott VC Green in honour of one of this country’s war heroes who won the Victoria Cross and for whom the annual VC Cup also honours. Picture shows the winning team – Geoff Bovey, Gary Wyllie, Danny Madden and Neil Bovey-with Peter Elliott, son of Keith Elliott. The runners up from Johnsonville were Brent Shugg, Gareth Evans, Keith Alexander and Ian Franklin.
