Club members, especially the older ones, are very sad to learn of the death of Dorothy Franks. She and her husband, Leicester, were vital members of the club from 1987. Dorothy won many club titles, including the singles three years in succession, and also represented the Kapiti Centre on numerous occasions from 1993- 2000. She was the inaugural President of the Kapiti BC (now Raumati) when the mens’ and women’s clubs combined. Leicester still keeps abreast of club happenings via Jack Robertson and the Franks are remembered each Easter when members play the Mixed 2x 4 x2 championships for The Franks Cup.
Our Junior players were to the fore in the five club championships which were decided at the weekend.
Three of them won titles with Ron Olivecrona getting his hands on two trophies- the Men’s Triples and the Mixed Fours. Sue Veart was lead for Audrey and Rochelle Stevenson in the Women’s Triples, while Laurie Flynn played alongside his mate Ron Olivecrona in the triples.
What a cliffhanger! No wonder the three players pictured look happy. Add relieved to that. Kathy Edney-Meachan, Trudy Nicholson (skip) and Maureen Gestro have won our Women’s Triples title.
Winners Mens Triples 2022 Ted Marshall, Ron Olivecrona and Laurie Flynn
Runners up were Mike Harvey, Chris Macdonald and Mike Simeonoff

Long-serving member, Glyn Phillips, was all smiles…
A new member of the Raumati Bowling Club, in fact a new bowler, is Mike Simeonoff. Lower Hutt born, Mike has lived in Kapiti for the last 44 years. He attended Wellington High School where his life-long interest in sport was developed. He dabbled with a variety of codes before eventually settling on football which…
